About ChessTimer.org

ChessTimer.org is an independent, free chess clock for people who want a reliable timer on a phone, tablet or laptop without an account or an app store.

What we believe

• A clock should load instantly and be readable from across the board.
• You should not need an account to play a game.
• It should keep working with a poor connection or none at all.

How it works

The timer runs in your browser and measures real elapsed time, so it stays accurate even if your device briefly slows down. Your settings stay on your device. Read our privacy policy for details.

Editorial standards

Guides describe common practice in plain language, and we point readers to the official FIDE Handbook for the Laws of Chess. We correct mistakes when readers report them, and we show the date a page was last updated.

Limits

This timer is not an approved clock for official or rated events. Follow your arbiter’s instructions. See also our terms and contact page.
